New World

The New World producing countries are USA, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile Argentina Uruguay and Brazil. They are called New World wine since they have been producing quality wines more recently and under less restricting rules than in the Old World. Their style on average is riper, fuller in body and fruitier. That said the New World has made great progress and has been making wines more recently rivalling with the best from the Old world.

Nose

It is the second stage, or smelling process in the wine tasting. It is one of the most important since it will reveal the aromas. To do that, swirl the wine a couple of times in the glass so that there is a good contact with air to fully release the flavours. Then smell the flavours in the glass and try to recognise them. It only takes a few times of smelling to start recognising the flavours. There are different types of aromas: Fruity (red, black, white, tropical, stone, and dried), floral, vegetal (Vegetable, fungus, woody, leafy, Spicy), animal and toasty. Please also refer to glass, intensity and complexity.
