I
have some news for you: as we are often asked by you what is good
to buy, we thought we would put together a list of a few
recommended wines ready to be delivered to your door every month.
But not any wine…..
The list called Value Wines
will include 2 to 4 products we have tasted and liked, but which
“punch well above their weights”, and at the right
price. This list will change completely every
month and so the wines on offer will be available for
the current month running only or until stocks last if this comes
first! So make sure you check our website or the newsletter regularly.
More news this month as we launch
a new tasting theme: Women's Wines celebrating
some of the best female winemakers of this planet. Finally we
talk about passion for wine again with Jacques Castany,
winemaker at Domaine de L’Edre in Languedoc who
makes successful wines part time!
Have a great month!

we would celebrate their work by putting together a wine list
with some of the greatest names. From the Old World to the
New, we will taste a diverse range of wines all providing
top quality. A fantastic tasting against preconceived ideas!

Part
2 - Interview - Jacques
Castany - Winemaker -
Domaine de L'Edre
| It
was not some of the best reviews and ratings of the
whole Languedoc area for the wines of the young Domaine
de l’Edre which brought me to visit this wine
estate recently. But it was the passion for wine from
two men who decided to make quality wine as a hobby
on Week ends apart from their main jobs one day!

Apart
from the warm welcome I received from Jacques Castany
the winemaker, I had the opportunity to taste his
wines too. From his basic but fine whites (Carrement
Blanc 2007, 2006) and reds (Carrement Rouges 2007
and 2005) to the premium Edre 2007 still in barrels,
they were all very approachable even at that young
age.
Edre
2007 had another 3 month of barrel maturation to go
but was already very drinkable! The aromatics were
profound, with blackberry, liquorice, floral and stone.
Full bodied and seamless with silky tannins and a
10+ seconds length, it deserves a very good to excellent
rating. Problem is, he made 9 barrels of Edre 2007
which are already sold and I also understand the 2008
is already pretty much reserved!
